Every hotel interior leaves a footprint from the moment it opens its doors. The carbon generated by the manufacture, transportation and installation of materials is already embedded before the first guest even arrives, yet it is rarely accounted for. Certifications are multiplying and moodboards increasingly feature reclaimed wood, but the true impact behind each material choice remains largely unknown.
And that impact is independent of how an interior looks. Two equally appealing designs can have radically different environmental footprints. Sustainability lies in the data, not in the aesthetics.
That is precisely why this represents one of the greatest opportunities for improvement within the industry. The environmental footprint of a project is shaped by a series of everyday decisions — from the materials themselves to their sourcing, manufacturing and transportation — and every one of them can be measured and reconsidered.
